I told a small group of people in the summer that I had signed up for an Ironman in Ottawa next August. For those who don’t know what an Ironman is, it is an endurance race where you swim 3.9km, 180km bike and 42.2km run, all within 17 hours.
I thought I would keep this private from everybody, but then I thought, why keep it a secret? Maybe someone out there would like to know about my journey. So, here is my first week of training.
Monday, Dec 9 - Day1:
Morning strength training, a 40-minute lunchtime steady run on the treadmill, and stretching out in front of the TV watching The Voice! Haha. I'm not feeling too bad, considering I was feeling sick yesterday. It’s a good thing it didn’t turn into full-blown sickness!
Tuesday, Dec 10 - Day 2:
Morning 30-minute flow yoga and a 1.5 hr sweet spot bike at Bike Doctor. I'm feeling pretty good, and Male got to join in yoga for a bit!
Wednesday, Dec 11- Day 3:
This is a quick one because I didn't train!😄 Woke up at 3:30 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep. It's not a good idea to train when I'm tired. I did do a few yoga poses while watching The National. Something is better than nothing.
Thursday, Dec 12 - Day 4:
Distance swim 1500m. Followed by a 45-minute VO2 Max bike at Bike Doctor before coaching the same workout and a yoga class. If you are in Saskatoon, join me next semester! Every Thursday at 6 pm at Bike Doctor, where I bike for 45 minutes, followed by 45 minutes of yoga. It's a great way to get your workout in and stretch out! Check out Bike Doctor -> and click on Spin Doctor to sign up!
Friday, Dec 13 - Day 5:
I was planning to go for a swim, but my life schedule took a different turn. I am starting a non-profit youth triathlon club and was meeting with my accountant's payroll assistant to learn this new bookkeeping software. It took longer than I thought, so no swimming for me today. Plus, it was a work Christmas Party tonight.
Saturday, Dec 14 - Day 6:
Today was almost like a triathlon! I had a 45-minute hill run at Motion Fitness in the morning. I was sad because I realized there were no games on these treadmills. I guess it will also be mental training whenever I run in Motion Fitness. After that, I taught two yoga classes, followed by coaching a one-hour private swim session with an 8-year-old. Then, myself and four others got to be recognized as Hero of the Game at the Saskatchewan Rush Game. We got to walk out onto the field in conjunction with the anthem singer(s). Long story short, I am part of a team of yoga teachers from Ivy Yoga House, where each week, we teach yoga at the Adult Mental Health Short Stay Unit at the Royal University Hospital. To hear more about this program, check out this podcast! Plus, you get to hear a short part of me guiding the start of each class.
Sunday, Dec 15 - Day 7:
Sickness has finally caught up with me. For the next couple of days, it will definitely be a rest day for me.
8 months (34 weeks) to go till Ironman Ottawa. Fingers crossed, I won't get sick that often!
Until then,
Fill your jar with the things you love to do!
And keep being you, the world needs more you!🌻❤️
